Replacing a side frame rail or in-cab gas tank with a rear frame rail mount steel tank frees up room inside the cab, eliminates unpleasant gasoline odors, moves the fuel's weight and adds traction to the rear wheels of the truck. Gas tank could also be used as an auxiliary tank for extra fuel reserve.
These baffled 19-gallon bed-fill steel gas tanks are flanged for frame rail mounting and include fuel line fittings and mounting hardware. Additional parts will be necessary to complete the installation. A sending unit, flush-mount fuel filler and filler hose will need to be added; each sold separately. Sending units will work with 6 volt or 12 volt systems. A hole in the bed floor for the fuel filler, an extension of the fuel feed line and sending unit wires and relocation of the frame mounted spare tire will be needed. Flush-mount fuel fillers are available in polished finish with keyed cap or pop-up twist knob. Order the filler hose to make the connection between the fuel filler and rear mount tank.
