Before starting a new or rebuilt motor for the first time, it's critical to prime the lubricating system to prevent premature wear. Failure to pressurize the oil could result in a dry start that can cause camshaft, bearing and/or piston ring failure. An Oil Pump Priming Tool makes this process easy — just remove the distributor, insert the priming tool and turn it clockwise with a 3/8" drill. The tool has a machined aluminum collar that simulates the distributor and helps to eliminate damaging side loading of the oil pump drive while priming.
